Although this next section does not fall within the domain of a leadership framework per se, it will demonstrate an area of significant learning for me, and a perspective that I now incorporate in all areas of my practice: that it is not only the destination and the outcomes that we should focus on as social work leaders, but also the journey and the process that itself leads to, and ultimately shapes, those meaningful ends. This concept was more broadly introduced by Wheatley (2005), and helped me understand social work leadership from a new perspective.
